About Milton District Hospital Foundation

A registered charity founded in 1980, Milton District Hospital Foundation (MDHF) works to raise funds for Milton District Hospital (MDH), site of Halton Healthcare Services (HHS).

As the government does not provide all the funding for hospital equipment needs, MDHF raises funds to help purchase essential medical equipment and improve the facilities through annual fundraising initiatives, community events, and a combination of various other programs.

All donations made to MDHF remain in Milton.

Over the years MDHF has developed a strong tradition of community support to ensure the people of Milton have access to quality healthcare close to home.  You can help to meet the healthcare needs of tomorrow by participating today. MDHF most gratefully acknowledges all those who continue their generous support through individual, community or corporate partnerships with MDHF to benefit the hospital.

The Foundation is managed by an Executive Director supported by a volunteer board. Board members, who are elected from Milton area residents, are committed to helping Milton District Hospital meet the needs of the community now and in the future.

Message from Helen Vatistas, Executive Director MDHF

Three and a half years of detailed planning came to fruition in early April 2015, when heavy equipment moved in and the construction of the long-awaited hospital expansion began—the largest project since Milton District Hospital opened its doors in 1959.

We are embarking on an exciting time for the hospital and the foundation, and I want to stop for a moment and consider how we got to this point. It took a lot of hard work and dedication on the part of many to visualize and plan for this project. In fact, it will take many more to follow in the footsteps of those who have already generously supported the Milton District Hospital expansion in word and deed. As Executive Director of the Milton District Hospital Foundation, I want to recognize and celebrate the tremendous generosity the foundation has experienced to date. It is this support that will allow us to go forward with confidence to fulfill our commitment to the hospital.

While all this is happening, our dedicated medical staff remains focused on the hospital’s primary objective: to provide compassionate, excellent healthcare close to home!   Alongside this most important objective comes the need to provide the most up-to-date medical equipment and leading edge technology to our doctors and nurses.

Government funding is limited and the foundation must rely on the generosity of our community to raise funds for the purchase of essential medical equipment. With the construction of the expansion now in progress, the need for funding has increased to include equipping and furnishing our soon-to-be expanded facility.

I want to thank all our donors who have already given a corporate or individual donation to the Our Home, Our Hospital Campaign. I also want to thank all those who are now considering a gift to the campaign and those who will follow their example in the upcoming year.

A well-equipped hospital with caring and skilled people, who go above and beyond, means the world to our families and patients. It is heart-warming and rewarding to learn again and again just how much of a difference our hospital makes in people’s lives. It will take the support of the entire community—corporations, businesses and individuals alike—to reach our goal!

Your generosity is the key to our hospital’s success; the difference between good enough and great healthcare. This is what we will continue to work for, but we can only do it with your help. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued concern and consideration!

3. What is the legal name of the Foundation?

For the purposes of charitable giving, the legal name of the Foundation is “Milton District Hospital Foundation”.

4. Why do you need to raise funds? Doesn’t the government pay for health care?

While the government provides most of the day-to-day costs of running the Milton District Hospital, it does not provide all of the funding for the hospital’s equipment needs. Milton District Hospital Foundation raises funds to help purchase vital medical equipment and improve facilities. It is only through the generous support of the community that our hospital will continue to be well-equipped to serve you, your family and your friends when you need it most.

5. Do the funds raised by Milton District Hospital Foundation stay in Milton?

Yes! All the funds raised by Milton District Hospital Foundation remain in Milton, to be used for the purchase of medical equipment for Milton District Hospital.

6. Will you send out a card or letter in honour or in memory of an individual?

Yes. Our donors often give in memory or in honour of their friends and loved ones. When a donation is made we send out a card or letter to the family or individual being honoured, acknowledging your generous and thoughtful donation.

7. When an in honour or in memory gift is made, is the amount of the donation disclosed?

No. This information is kept strictly confidential unless the donor instructs us otherwise.

8. Whom do I contact if I want to run an event on behalf of the Foundation?

We’re delighted that so many people think of Milton District Hospital when they decide to host a fundraiser. Support from our community is a long-standing tradition and essential to the continued success of our hospital.
