Diagnostic ImagingDigital Imaging at Milton District HospitalLaunched in February of 2007, the CT Scanner and Diagnostic Imaging Renewal Campaign raised $5 million for an expansion of diagnostic services at Milton District Hospital. In order to accommodate the expansion of our diagnostic services, including CT scanning and Digital Mammography, a new Imaging Annex was built adjacent to the old Diagnostic Imaging Centre. In January of 2008 the CT Scanner Suite was officially opened and the new Digital Mammography unit became operational in June of 2009, signifying the implementation of the final phase of the CT Scanner and Diagnostic Imaging Renewal Campaign. This updated and refurbished department houses a CT scanner, new digital x-ray equipment, picture archiving and communications systems (PACS), three ultrasound units and the new digital mammography unit. Our skilled team of radiologists and highly trained technologists combined with state-of-the-art technology offer patients improved privacy and dignity when undergoing sometimes frightening diagnosis. Our team of physicians and technologists provides patients with clinical expertise and continued support during the time of diagnosis and treatment. The newer CT technology is more accurate than conventional X-ray or ultrasound, and is the current standard diagnostic tool for evaluating head, neck and spine trauma, suspected stroke, staging of tumours, analyzing bones and ribs for fractures or the pelvis, hip and knee for joint replacement, evaluating clots in the lungs, evaluating arteries and diagnosing heart conditions and viewing all the major organs. The new Digital Mammography unit is the most up-to-date technology in breast imaging providing our healthcare professionals the ability to manipulate an image and receive the clearest view for detection of cancers and reduce false positive findings.
