MDHF Mandate

Milton District Hospital Foundation has a single mandate

It may surprise many of you to know that government funding does not provide all of the funds necessary to acquire or replace equipment at the Hospital. It is through the efforts of Milton District Hospital Foundation and the generous support of the community of Milton that we have been able to make enhancements to quality healthcare in our community over the years.

Milton District Hospital Foundation (MDHF) was founded as a registered charity in 1980 with a single mandate - to raise funds that help provide for essential equipment needs for our Hospital, our patients and our community.

Dollars raised by Milton District Hospital Foundation stay in Milton. Funds are granted annually to the hospital for capital equipment and are in no way directed to Hospital operational costs.

Through annual fundraising initiatives, community events, and the generous support of our patients and the community, Milton District Hospital Foundation supports a list of hospital equipment that is identified annually, by staff and physicians, as essential to help keep pace with growth.
As an important part of Halton Healthcare Services (HHS), Milton District Hospital (MDH) is a 68-bed community hospital providing mostly primary care to the residents of Milton with areas of clinical emphasis including obstetrics, general medicine, surgery, rehabilitation and complex continuing care.
Population growth and aging are key issues pressuring Milton District Hospital today. Investing in quality health care is just that, an investment in our futures. Over the years, thanks to the tremendous generosity of our community, MDH has grown and expanded to meet the changing health care needs of this rapidly growing and wonderfully distinct community. Our hospital has a long tradition of ensuring that the people of Milton receive quality health care services in their home community.

Built almost 50 years ago, Milton District Hospital underwent its last significant expansion in 1987 - to meet the needs of a population of 32,000 residents. Milton is no longer the small town it once was. With a population of over 80,000, and growing, our hospital needs to expand again. Halton Healthcare Services has submitted a Business Case to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to provide rationale for the expansion of MDH. Before work can begin to expand our hospital, HHS must receive approval and funding from the provincial government. We are confident that the request will be approved so that MDH can be redeveloped to meet the needs of our community today and in the future.

Every gift to Milton District Hospital Foundation is a simple, thoughtful way to reflect your vision for excellence in health care. The gift truly impacts on the lives of patients and improves the overall quality of healthcare for our community. Donations, special event proceeds and planned gifts can be directed to specific equipment need or department or applied to our highest priorities.
